Thanks to Brian for the icebreaker! We all had an amusing time writing limericks and haikus about each other. :)
Dragfest is coming up quickly, on February 11! Security and Sound and Lights are pretty much all set to go, and Ramiro has graciously volunteered to DJ for us again. Carrie designed some excellent posters which will be going up around campus very soon.
The theme for Dragfest this year is Decades (or Decades of Drag). Start spreading the word about it! I'll send out some listserv emails and create a facebook event, and then all of you can pass the info along to your friends and listservs.
On the day of Dragfest, we will be having our annual Day of Drag. Basically, that just entails encouraging people to dress in drag (or at least do a little bit of gender-bending) all day long.
The day before Dragfest, which is Thursday, February 10, we will be having a Coalition movie night. Starting at 5:30 PM, whoever wants to get together and cook or bake snacks is encouraged to come to the GAC kitchen. At 7 PM, we will be showing the movie Venus Boyz, which is a documentary about drag kings.
We will be co-sponsoring FACE's Equality is Sexy coffeehouse and open mic (featuring poet/singer Shira Erlichman) this April.
Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, February 8 at 8 PM in the GAC. We might be taking a group picture for the upcoming yearbook at that time.

Welcome back, everyone! And thanks to all who attended the meeting last night - we got a lot of planning done!
Our permanent meeting time for this semester will be on Tuesdays at 8 PM.
Dragfest will be held early this year, on Friday, February 11. It will be in the Reid Ballroom from 9 PM to midnight. The theme will be Decades - pick a decade and come dressed with that theme in mind (and in drag, of course!). We had someone volunteer to make the big posters, but we still need someone to make the fliers for the dorms and academic buildings. If you're interested, let me know!
We wanted to put on a somewhat educational event in conjunction with Dragfest this year. Two years ago, we had Professor Croot from the theater department come give a presentation on the history of drag, and those of us who attended thought it was really interesting and maybe worth doing again. We will be contacting her and asking if she'd be willing to speak again; if not, we'll think of some other event - maybe a movie or something?
In late February, we're hoping to put on some sort of lecture or workshop related to safe sex practices for non-heterosexual people. We're going to look into having someone from the health center or Planned Parenthood come to present.
We will be having a social event (baking? movie?) in early March, shortly before spring break.
On/around April 7, we want to have a student panel discussion similar in format to the panel on coming out that we held in October. The topic of the panel is still up for discussion, but we want to co-host it with another group. A couple ideas that were brought up were to have the panel about gender and sexuality (co-hosted with FACE?) or about the experiences of LGBT people in other cultures (co-hosted with language houses or an IC club?).
April 15 is the National Day of Silence. Also that day is the Equality is Sexy event put on by FACE. We are hoping to be able to co-sponsor this event with FACE - it would make a good Breaking the Silence event for us!
On April 22, we will be having Same-Sex Hand Holding Day.
Brian will be leading us in an icebreaker at the next meeting! Hope you all can make it!
