Hello ALL,
this meeting was productive and fun!
First off, we talked about Coming Out Day/Queer Prom. For Coming out day, we are almost done with all the planning. However, we are short in some ends. We got the Door taken care off. The door will be in out from 10:50 AM till 1:30 PM. We broke down the shifts into 30-min shifts. Most of them are covered, but we still more. The schedule looks as follows:
10:50 AM - 11:30 AM: NO ONE
11:30 AM - noon: Jeremy
12:30 PM- 1 PM: Sado/Hayley
We are short three people: two for the first shift and one for the second. Please email me, if you want to help, so I could add you. Also, we need people to volunteer to help Thu make a poster(s) for Coming Out Day.
In regards to Queer Prom, we have the general idea for the night. It is a white and black attire dance. COALITION and GLBTQ members are encouraged, however, to wear a different
color. For example, I would wear all yellow, or all orange. In addition, Thu also needs help with table toppers and with posters. Hayley is creating a facebook event for Queer Prom. We are still in need for a theme name. If you have any ideas, please email the list-serve. Our deadline is this coming MONDAY. After Monday, Danielle and I will decide on one for you.
The t-shirts will be ordered soon! Please email your shirt size!! They are purple and the design you saw in the email is the design we are going for.
We have started planning for AIDS week. Your input/involvement is vital for this week. Come to the next meeting, we want to hear what you have in mind. So far, we outlined the events/speakers/workshops for the week. We will definitely need tons of working hands.
Sado and I are meeting in front of REID to write the Constitution tomorrow. Please join us, if you can. Time to be announced.
Lastly, but definitely not least, we talked about doing something social that required moving around as a group. and more social. We decided that all COALITION members should take my hip hip class this coming FRIDAY from 7-8 PM in the Aerobics Room. It should be fun!! Come by and dance with COALITION!

Queer Prom is now "Rainbow Rage" again. It'll be Friday, October 13th from 10 PM to 1:30
PM. We've also thought of another theme at the meeting: Black Party (tentative title). As the name suggests, everybody wears black (or at least close to black). We're still figuring it out decorations-wise.
Advertising is going to be KEY. We should probably start advertising next week or the week after the next. It's going to go beyond sending e-mails out to the listserv.
I was originally going to be the DJ, but I think we're going to go with Saima Hashimi as our DJ.
If anybody has any alternate themes to suggest, please suggest them.
-------
AIDS Week - Nov 12th to the 18th
VERY important. I'd love to see us spread some awareness and get riled up about it as there seems to be a dearth of social activism on the campus these days. I've been bummed about that ever since I was "reminded" about the fact that the campus (including me) didn't say or do anything on Thursday for the trial/protest of the Jena 6.
So do something. Wear a condom T-shirt. Get a megaphone. Whatever. Just remind students all that week of the effect that AIDS has on all of us.
AIDS Walk is still the same date (I think). We're planning on getting together with other groups on campus (The South Asian Student Association is going with us).
Tabletoppers will also need to be made. If anybody has the artistic talent to make a poster, that would be great.
-------
Coming Out Day - Oct. 12
So we've hit a snag. The door is being held by someone who won't give it up to us because (and I quote) we "Whitman students expect everything to be available to us." Yes; even though Harper Joy is a part of Whitman. Fantastic logic, Mr. Theater Department Guy.
Ozzie's working on it, so I'm sure we'll get it eventually.
We'll be holding the door on Ankeny Field between 12 - 1 PM, so if anybody wants to volunteer, please do so.
------
NEW Constitution
I'm working on it, but please read the last e-mail I sent out about the Constitution. I really do want your suggestions as this is OUR club. It's due Oct. 2nd because ASWC hates me.
No, just kidding; but ASWC loves to announce these things to me when they're due close to
a deadline.
------
Dragfest 2008
Just a date. That's March 29th, 2008. Don't worry about it yet, but if you have ideas about a theme, it never hurts to suggest.

* Visitor - Roman Goerss, a student representing the Republican group on campus came to
speak at the meeting. He informed us that the Republicans are bringing Andrew Sullivan to
campus. He is conservative and for gay rights. We are allowed to co-sponsor him if we want, as well as meet with him personally.
* September 21 - Movies will be shown at Professor Tobin's House. They will be "Brokeback Mountain" and "But I'm a Cheerleader." (We will consider showing the "Noah's Ark" series at another movie showing).
* October 12-13 - Coming Out Day. On the 12th there will be a door on Ankeny for people
to go through and come out as something (anything they chose), and on the 13th there will
be a dance - Rainbow Rage (not called Queer Prom anymore). People will need to help with
decorations (pizza for setting up?). So far, Haley, Ozzie, Brittany, and Danielle have said yes to setting up. ALSO, PLEASE SEND THE LISTSERV IDEAS FOR THE RAINBOW RAGE THEME
(you can so bring your suggestions to the next meeting).
* Shirts - The more we buy the cheaper it will cost. Anyone can order a shirt. PLEASE SEND YOUR SHIRT SIZES TO DANIELLE IF YOU WANT A SHIRT (~$15).
* AIDS WEEK - Will have a walk, as well as other events, such as speakers. So far SASA and WCLU have decided to join Coalition in doing this/these event(s).
* SPEAKERS,etc. - For Fall: Mirah (Portland) and Stacey Anne Chin (Poet - bring with FACE). Speakers and the like to consider for Spring are Harvey Fierstien (comedian), Meshell Ndegeocello, and Dar Williams.
* Bisexuality Panel - This would be for Bisexuality Day (date to be announced). IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN BEING ON THIS PANEL, PLEASE CONTACT DANIELLE OR OZZIE.
* October - Any events we plan for this month should be added to the Walla Walla community's calendar (Diversity Coalition) of events advertising Freedom From Discrimination Month.
* Next meeting - September 20th at 7PM in Coffeehouse (downstairs of Reid).
